Right lads & lassies,
I am involved in a project which involves a domain merge and migration to Office365.It has been agreed at a governance level to use third party tools. Now surprise , surprise Dell (formerly known as Quest) Migration Manager for Exchange\AD has been bandied about.Being very familiar with this tool it works very well from a coexistence point of view from a AD point of view. (The repermissioning and migration of servers\workstations works a treat) However the underlying way that the Exchange Tool works I don't like.e.g. it copies messages to a PST and then imports checks again and again until complete. In my experience it really doesn't work well for large mailboxes (over15GB) or a mailbox which contains large attachments. Now if the underlying architecture is the same for a move to Office365 it is guaranteed that users will experience lost mails etc. So my question is :Has anybody used different Third Party Tools which work well for large mailboxes in a migration ?Is it possible to do the Office365 Migration (using Exchange Hybrid) and then use QMM for AD and make some kind of change in Azure Online which is supported and used which will work ?There is a proposal to do ADFS for this which I am comfortable with.Considering they are also going to upgrade the clients to Office365 I think I am going to recommend a more modular approach.
Module 1: Office365 and Office Client on users who are already in the Target Domain. Migrate users directly using Exchange Hybrid.
Module 2: Users\Workstations\Servers on Source DomainMigrate Users from Source Domain using QMM for AD\Exchange (Other Ideas appreciated) to Office365.
I would LUV not to use QMM for Office365 if the underlying architecture of how it operates hasn't changed.....
What do we think ?????
