DC cloning and ADFS

Hi all   Does anyone know if ADFS (2012 R2 version obviously) is on the allowed list for DC cloning? Seeing as MSFT’s recommendation now is to co-locate these two, I am planning to recommend this to a client, but haven’t tried it. I presume that there might be some issues with WID but for off-box SQL it should be OK.

Since we don't test it, it's not supported.
Aside: WID configs will be broken (never tried it but I can't conceive of how the heck that would "just work").  SQL should work but, again, not tested == not officially supported.

Can you share the msft recommendation to co-locate the services? I always thought they wanted the dc to be a dc, and nothing else...

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn151324.aspx For 1000 users or less. Not likely to change any of my architectures or design. But for Lab/POC, why not? /kj

Thanks Dean.

OK scratch that one then. It’s a pity though. ADFS is just another authentication technology, would be nice to have them all running off the same nodes.

It’s a somewhat conflicting recommendation, since if you have virtual DCs you’ll probably want to take advantage of cloning, and if you have ADFS, you’ll probably want to co-locate if you have a small environment.

Yes interesting because about 3 months ago at a previous client we had a guy in from MSFT to do a chalk and talk on Azure, who was all for co-locating with a much bigger user base. I don’t see myself what the

restrictions would be since ADFS is very light on resources. Adding a bit of headroom would easily allow for ADFS to run on DCs in most cases.

Aware of any changes to recommendations for Server10/2016?
